I’ll be speaking on a freelancing panel at the AAJA Career Remix this Saturday, October 26th. Think about attending If you’re in San Francisco and would like to learn more about designing a freelance writing career. Check out the event details here:
I’ve written a very personal essay for the NYT’s Motherlode blog on how not breast-feeding my son has affected my relationship and career. Here’s an excerpt:
“Several years ago, I was on a flight home from college when the woman sitting next to me — slim, blond, earth mother-y — began to nurse her infant son. The attendant offered her a blanket; it was refused. “What does he want me to do, smother my baby?” she asked me sarcastically . . .” (read more)
I’m on the NYT’s Motherlode blog again, this time giving my take on the controversial book “The Conflict,” which argues that the modern natural parenting movement undermines women. You can find the full post here.

I’m participating in a live video chat via Spreecast this coming Tuesday 4/24 at 11 AM PST. I’ll be talking abut “My Pregnancy Rebellion” and issues related to pregnancy and motherhood. Check it out here.
Lindsay Cross of Mommyish.com explores some of the cultural issues surrounding hair dyeing during pregnancy and references “My Pregnancy Rebellion” in her post, “Dying Your Hair, The Newest Trend for Pregnant Ladies Going Rogue.” Apparently Kourtney Kardashian recently got caught up in the controversy when she blogged about lightening her hair during her pregnancy. Her fans became so enraged that she had to post a follow-up defending her decision and explained that she used ammonia-free products in a well-ventilated area, etc.
KJ Dell’Antonia of the NY Times blog Motherlode wrote a piece today called, “The ‘Pregnancy Police’ Are Everywhere (Even in Your Head).” In it she references my Salon article and inquires about the internal vs. external nature of the paranoia I write about. It’s a great post, and it seems to be generating some good discussion in the comments. Be sure to check it out if you’re interested.
